Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho: A Hybrid Hotel for Modern Travelers

Introducing a Unique Accommodation Experience in Tokyo

Inspired by the growing demand for hotels in the Hamamatsucho area, the Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel offers a unique and versatile experience for both business and leisure travelers. Designed by Wataru Omameuda and Daisuke Kusumoto, this hybrid hotel combines the convenience of capsule beds with the comfort of traditional guest rooms, providing a range of accommodation options for visitors to Tokyo.

With the recent increase in inbound tourists and the upcoming Olympic Games, the Hamamatsucho area has become an attractive location for hotels. Initially planned as a condominium site, the Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel capitalizes on the area's potential and history of successful hotel conversions.

One of the key features that sets this hotel apart is its emphasis on creating a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding city. All guest rooms are equipped with large, two-meter square windows, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of the vibrant Tokyo streetscape. Whether it's for business or pleasure, guests can relax, cook, eat, and daydream in the hotel's common spaces, such as the kitchen and rooftop.

Constructed using a combination of steel frame and extrusion molded cement, the Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel boasts a total floor area of 1,298.21 square meters spread across 10 floors above ground. The design team, led by Wataru Omameuda and Daisuke Kusumoto, carefully considered the site's limited area of 263.91 square meters and successfully maximized its potential.

By incorporating the keywords "town VOID," "guest room SCALE design," and "share COMMUNITY," the design team aimed to create a "new hotel life" that offers a unique and private experience for guests. Unlike many hotels in the city center that prioritize small rooms for profitability, the Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel focuses on providing comfort and relaxation while offering a slightly different atmosphere from everyday life.

The design of the hotel was based on extensive research and experience in creating connections and communities. Drawing inspiration from concepts such as share houses, collective houses, hostels, and hotels, the design team sought to foster a sense of community within the hotel. Common spaces were strategically placed throughout the hotel, including in each guest room and along the flow line around the water, encouraging interaction and connection among guests.

The Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel was completed between January 2018 and January 2020, showcasing the dedication and creativity of the design team. The hotel's unique approach to hospitality has garnered recognition, earning it the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit technical and creative excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

Experience the Bay Tokyo Hamamatsucho hotel and discover a new way to stay in Tokyo. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, this hybrid hotel offers a range of accommodation options and a vibrant community atmosphere.
